Gemini Canvas: Creating Interactive Activities in a Flash!

Meet Gemini Canvas, new feature built right into Google's Gemini AI. It's not a complicated new platform, but rather an interactive space where you and your students can work alongside the AI to create and customize learning materials on the fly. It's like having a digital whiteboard and a brilliant assistant all in one place.

Using it in the Classroom

This is where Gemini Canvas really shines. It goes beyond the creation of static documents and builds interactive tools that students can actually utilize. Here are a few ideas:

  • Build a Vocabulary Match-Up: Have Gemini generate a list of vocabulary words from your lesson and then create a second, shuffled list of simple definitions. You can then give students this to match up, providing a hands-on way to practice new terms.

  • Create a Story Sequencing Tool: Paste a short story into the canvas and ask Gemini to break it down into a list of key events. From there, you can turn each event into a separate box that students can reorder to practice story sequencing.

  • Generate an Interactive Quiz: You can paste in a set of notes or a reading passage and ask Gemini to create a quiz directly within the canvas. This gives students a quick and private way to check their understanding.

How to Get Started

Getting started is as easy as opening your Gemini app. Select "Canvas" below the prompt bar and tell it what you want to create. From there, you can edit, add to, and refine your project using simple language. Once you're done, you can export your work to a Google Doc or share a link with your students.
